Get the Words Out of Your PDFs
Copying text straight from a PDF viewer often produces broken lines, missing spaces or jumbled columns. This tool reads the text layer of the PDF and rebuilds proper lines and paragraphs, so you can paste quotes into a report, reuse content in Word or Google Docs, feed documents into a translation tool or search through long contracts and manuals.
It works with any PDF that contains real, selectable text – for example files exported from Word, LibreOffice or a web browser. Scanned documents and photos of pages contain only images; for those, run PDF OCR first. All processing takes place in your browser, so your documents stay private.
Frequently Asked Questions about PDF to Text
Why is no text extracted from my PDF?
Your PDF is probably a scan or a photo: the pages are images without a text layer. Use the PDF OCR tool to recognize the text, then extract it.
Is the formatting preserved?
The result is plain text. Line breaks and paragraphs are kept, but fonts, colors, images and exact layout are not. Multi-column layouts and tables may come out in reading order that differs from what you see.
Can I see where each page starts?
Yes. Under “Between pages” choose “--- Page N ---” to insert a marker before every page, or a blank line or nothing at all.
Does it work with other languages?
Yes. The text is extracted as Unicode, so accented letters, Cyrillic, Greek, Asian scripts and other languages are kept as long as the PDF stores them correctly.
Is my document uploaded?
No. The text is extracted locally in your browser and your PDF never leaves your device.
