How to Edit PDF Metadata
Open Your PDF
Drop the file into the upload area. Title, author, subject, keywords, software and dates appear in a form, together with the page count and PDF version.
Edit or Remove
Change any field, or empty it to delete that property. Want a clean file? “Remove all metadata” wipes every property in one click.
Download
Click “Save Metadata”. The new PDF is downloaded right away – pages, text and images are not touched.
Why Check Your PDF Metadata?
Every PDF carries hidden information: the author's name (often the account name of the computer), the program and version that created it, and exact creation and modification dates. Before you send a document to a client, publish it online or submit an application, it's worth a look – and removing the properties protects your privacy.
Good metadata is just as useful: a meaningful title is shown in the browser tab and by search engines instead of the file name, and keywords help document management systems find your files. Besides the classic document properties, the tool also updates or removes the XMP metadata that many programs embed, so viewers like Adobe Acrobat show the new values.
Want a smaller file as well? Compress the PDF or remove pages you don't need.
Frequently Asked Questions about PDF Metadata
What is PDF metadata?
Metadata is information about the document rather than its content: title, author, subject, keywords, the creating application, the PDF producer and the creation and modification dates. PDF readers show it under “Document properties”.
What does “Remove all metadata” delete?
It deletes all document properties, including custom fields added by other programs, and the embedded XMP metadata stream. The content of the pages stays exactly the same.
Why does my PDF reader still show the old title?
Some programs cache document information. Close the file completely and open the downloaded copy again. Also check that you opened the new file, which ends in “_metadata.pdf”.
Does editing metadata change the content?
No. Only the document properties are rewritten. Text, images, links and form fields are kept, and the dates you don't change are left as they are.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The PDF is read and saved locally in your browser. Neither the document nor its metadata is sent to a server.
