How to Add Page Numbers to a PDF
Select Your PDF
Drop the PDF into the upload box or pick it from your device. It is opened locally – nothing is uploaded.
Choose Position & Format
Pick one of nine positions and a format such as “1”, “Page 1 of 10”, roman numerals or your own text. Set the first number, skip the cover page and adjust size, color and margin.
Download
Click “Add Page Numbers” and the numbered PDF is saved to your device. The file stays loaded, so you can tweak the settings and try again.
Professional Pagination for Any Document
Page numbers make reports, theses, manuals and contracts easy to navigate, cite and print. Place them in the header or footer, left, centered or right, and choose between plain numbers, “Page X of Y”, roman numerals for front matter or letters for appendices.
With a custom template you can write the label in any language – for example Seite {n} von {total} or Página {n}. Non-Latin text such as Greek or Cyrillic is supported with an embedded font. Rotated and landscape pages are handled automatically, so numbers always appear upright where you expect them.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I leave the cover page without a number?
Set “Skip first pages” to 1. The cover stays unnumbered and the next page gets the first number. If the second page should show “2”, set “First number” to 2.
Can I number only some pages?
Yes. Enter a range such as “3-20” or “5-” in “Pages to number”. Only those pages receive a number, counting up from the first number you chose.
Can I write “Page 1 of 10” in my own language?
Yes. Choose “Custom text” and use the placeholders {n} for the page number and {total} for the last number, for example “Seite {n} von {total}”.
Does adding page numbers change the rest of my PDF?
No. The numbers are drawn on top of the existing pages; text, images and links are left untouched and nothing is re-compressed.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The page numbers are added locally in your browser with JavaScript. Your document never leaves your device.
